Investing on-line can be assisted by locating the securities exchange filing documents directly in the USA through EDGAR and through SEDAR.COM on the Canadian exchanges.  Online trading information can also be extremely useful and is much more timely now in the Canadian stock market with the SEDI.CA site and the US equivalent.  Unfortunately the research coverage of small cap stocks has taken a hit in both markets due to independence regulations between research and corporate finance.  We have not provided links to independent research but will shortly.  Direct trading and online trading in the Canadian market has nearly caught up to the sophistication of the US market, but the online brokerage industry in Canada is dominated by Bank-owned firms that have been slow to offer such services.  In Canada, registered retirment savings plans can now contain a considerable amount of foreign content, previously restricted to 30%, but most online and full service brokers in Canada still don't allow you to hold US$cash in such an account, only securities.  Perhaps they still like to take the spread of converting US$back to the C$whenever a US security is sold.    Portfolio managers in Canada have still found it tough to buy technology stocks as the run in resource stocks and income trusts over the past two years has produced impressive returns.  The strength in the US technology sector finally appears to be generating some interest in the technology sector and the Institutions in Canada are finely looking at more of the TSX Venture Exchange stocks instead of staying with only the larger TSX Exchange stories.
